Description

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Circulation Service & circulation related works
• Staff/ Student Registration
• Lending & returning library book
• Retrieval of overdue materials (email/phone)
• Sending items to campuses and maintain records
• Printing, Photocopying & scanning facility
• Handle telephone and email enquiries
• Log users query from telephone, ask a librarian, email etc.
• Retrieval of library materials from shelf & online databases

 

2. Shelving & shelf reading
• Daily shelving according to DDC order
• Shelf reading according to DDC once a Week

 

3. User education:
• Library orientation to staff and students
• Conducting Library general orientation for each intake
• Educating users how to use OPAC
• Educating users how to use D-space to retrieve dissertations
• Educating users to retrieve materials from shelf & online databases
• Conducting Library OPAC & Database sessions

 

4. Technical works
• Accessioning & maintaining accession register
• Cataloguing: Catalogue items according to AACR2 rules & cataloguing procedure
• Original cataloguing for items which do not have catalogue records in other libraries
• Copy cataloguing using Z39.50 feature from Koha
• End processing: End process (labelling, stamping and covering) all the items according to End processing procedure
• Entering metadata to D-space
• Identify books for mending & repair; repair damaged items
• Discarding library materials according to Weeding Criteria
• Maintaining the weeding records
• Assist in stock audit once a year

 

5. Digitization work
• Scanning of dissertations to be uploaded to D-space
• Entering metadata to D-space

 

6. Library display promotion
• Prepare book display for specific days, subject displays and new arrivals and promote in the library and via social media
• Organize events such as Library day etc and promote reading events
• Design display concepts for newly arrived materials and subject displays.
• Organize events such as marking of library days and any other day planned for the academic year.

 

7. Customer care
• Handle telephone enquiries
• Log users query from telephone, ask a librarian, email etc.
• Retrieval of library materials from shelf & online databases

 

8. Accessioning:
• Accessioning newly added items to library collection according to accession procedure
• Follow the ISBD rule when accessioning

 

9. Classification:
• Classify items using DDC numbers with the help of the CIP record, other library online catalogues and DDC

 

10. Cataloguing:
• Catalogue items according to AACR2 rules & cataloguing procedure
• Original cataloguing for items which do not have catalogue records in other libraries
• Copy cataloguing using Z39.50 feature from Koha

 

11. End processing:
• End process (labelling, stamping and covering) all the items according to End processing procedure.

 

12. Mending:
• Identify books for mending & repair; repair damaged items

 

13. Weeding:
• Discarding library materials according to Weeding Criteria
• Maintaining the weeding records

 

14. Stocktaking:
• Assist in stock audit once a year.
